Dense connective tissue Flashcards
what are the 3 types of dense connective tissue?
-Dense regular CT (ligament & tendon)
-Dense irregular CT(e.g. joint capsule)
-elastic ct (lungs)
what’s the function of a dense Regular connective tissue?
*give examples
-provides strong attachment between structures
-ligaments
-tendons
what are the features of dense regular connective tissue?
-fibroblast
-matrix: collagen fibres in bundle ,few elastin fibres
Describe the difference between dense regular and dense irregular connective tissue
- dense regular (ligaments & tendon)-provides Strongs attachments between structures and provides strength in one directions
- dense irregular (joint capsule)-provides strength in multiple directions
what’s the dense regular connective tissue example 1 :ligaments function
-attaches bone to bone
-stabilises joints
-restricts excessive motion
what’s the dense regular connective tissue example 2 :tendon function
-attaches muscle to bone
-transmits tensile loads
what’s the features of dense irregular connective tissue?
-fibroblasts
-matrix : collagen fibres randomly arranged ,few elastin fibres, strong in multiple direction
Dense Irregular Connective Tissue
Example 1: Deep Fascia properties and function
-Sheet of connective tissue surrounding and
protecting individual muscles.
- Holds muscles
together &
separates them into
functional groups.
what’s the Dense Irregular Connective Tissue
Example 2: Joint Capsule
-Envelope surrounding
synovial joint.
