connective tissue Flashcards
what are the 4 main types of tissue?
- connective tissue
-epithelial tissue
-muscle tissue
-nervous tissue
what’s the most abundant &widely disrupted tissue?
connective tissue
give examples of connective tissue
Bone
ligament
Fat
Blood
what are the functions of connective tissue?
blood -transports nutrients
fat-insulates and protects organs
ligament &bones -bind&support other tissues
what are the shared features of connective tissue?
cells
matrix
what is the matrix ?
The matrix consists of protein fibres which sit in a ground substance .
what are the 2 main types of cells called and the names endings?
immature cells -blast
mature class of cell-cyte
give examples of immature cells and what’s the function?
Bone-osteoblast
cartilage -chondroblast
-secretes matrix
give examples of mature cells and state its function.
bone -osteocyte
cartilage-chondrocyte
maintains matrix
what is the matrix?
so the way the matrix is made up determines the unique properties of the connective tissue .
also it consists of proteins embedded in ground substance
what’s the ground substance?
*what’s it composed of
can be solid,gel or fluid
it has a core protein shape and polysaccharide side chains
amorphous (has no specific shape)
what’s the purpose of the ground substance?
supports cells
bind cells together
acts as a medium for substance exchange for example the blood and cells
what are the 2 main types of protein fibres in the matrix?
elastic fibres- give flexibility
collagen fibres -give strength
what does collagen fibres consist of and list some of its properties ?
consist of protein collagen
-very tough&resistant to tension (pulling) forces
-its arranged in bundles providing strength
-still allows for some flexibility(theres a curly aspect to it)
what do elastic fibres consist of and state a property?
consists of a protein called elastin
can be stretched 150% of relaxed length with our breaking. (noodles)
