What is demography mean?
Comes from Greek word demos for people, and Greek word graphie for writing.
What is demography?
Study of populations
Statistics that aim to analyze changes in population trends
Statistics of population characteristics such as age, income, birth rate, death rate.
How is information gathered?
Through a census that collects demographic factors associated with every member of the population.
Canada conducts a census every five years.
Statistics Canada puts together all the information together for the public to see.
What are population patterns and distribution?
The pattern of population in an area.
Distribution of settlements and people across given areas.
Major types of settlement patterns?
Nucleated or clustered
Dispersed

A settlement in which majority of the population in a given area is situated in a straight line
