What is the demographic transition model?
A
A model showing how populations change over time in terms of their bith rate death rates and total population size

Stage 1
A
- Least developed stage ( few places are at stage 1)
- Birth rate is high because theres no use of contraception
- People also have lots of children so infant morality rate is high
- Death rate is high due to poor healthcare or famine and life expectancy is low

- Not yet developed (LICs)
- Birth rate is high - the ecomony is based on agriculture, so people have lot’s of children to work on farms
- Death rates fall as better healthcare increacses life expectancy

- More developed (most NEEs)
- Birth rate falls rapidly as the use of contraception increases and more women are working instead of having childern
- The economy changes from farming to manufacturing, so fewer children are need to work on farms
- Death rate falls as improved healthcare and life expectancy increaces and more knowledge of diets
Total Population continues to increase fast

- most developed (Hics)
- Birth rates are low - people expect a high standard of living, small family trend and Independent women
- Death rate is low due to high quality health care and better paid jobs so people survive and live long
Total population slows down, slow increase
