Q

Memantine - MoA (explain)

A

Alzheimer’s - glutamate may overstimulate various receptors, leading to neuronal cell death. During activation of the NMDA receptor, Mg leaves its intra-pore binding site and allows excess Ca++ influx.

MoA = antagonist at NDMA receptor by binding to Mg binding site (WHEN OVERLY ACTIVE) and preventing Ca++ influx
