Effective black leaders counter

A

However MLK ultimately focused on the south of America and the issues there as they were more extreme. Though this meant economic issues of the north such as ghettos, unemployment and overcrowded housing with bad living conditions were ignored by King so those in the north did not feel the need to support and follow him making it less important.

A

Another prominent leader was Malcolm X. He was apart of the Nation of Islam and openly opposed kings non violent tactics and was in favour of self defence and even aggression. The X represented the name stolen from his ancestors during the slave trade. His opposite approach to king gave other Americans an option to support the cause if they did not agree with kings tactics.

Q

Effective black leaders Evaluation

A

Most important
Influential leaders like Stokey Carmichael who introduces idea of black power, which extreme message was attractive to some feeling as if they were taking control of their futures
More important that treatment of black servicemen in ww2 as leaders gave them someone to follow and look up to giving them that push to follow someone and take charge of their rights.

Q

Continued existence of racism within us society KU1

A

One extreme example is story of Emmet Till. He was a 14 year old boy visiting relatives in the south from north. He wolf whistled at a younger white woman and a week later was found dead so badly mutilated he was unrecognisable. The women’s husband and brother in law admitted to murder in court and yet were still acquitted.

Another example is JA Delaine, a black minister and teacher from South Carolina who tirelessly attempted to improve the education of black children within his state and in the 1950s attempted to introduce buses for black children to get to school. He was disgraced did this by white supremacists. He was fired, his family was targeted by arsonists and his church congregation was stoned.

Q

Continued existence of racism counter

A

However, JA Delaines family such as his niece and two sisters were fired from their jobs as well as him being forced to leave the state after being accused of assault. This is limiting as it discourages many from standing up for their rights as they did not want to be targeted and go through what JA Delaine did and stay quiet and loved how wasps wanted them too.

Q

Continued existence of racism within us society evaluation

A

Therefore very important
Cases like Little Rock Arkansas showed racism existed after the 1954 ruling which banned desegregation in schools causing black Americans to want to challenge this
Less important than black leaders such as MLK
arguably sparkles the entire movement by gaining mass media attention and giving the people someone to follow and guided them

Q

Establishment do effective black organisations KU1

A

NAACP was arguably the most prominent group to emerge after 1945 which previously established in 1909 and had members such as Ross Parks. In December 1955 in Montgomery Alabama Rosa Parks defused to give up her seat on a bus to a white man leading to her arrest and her being fined ten dollars. NAACP officials arranged a boycott of Montgomery buses which really effected bus companies as 60-70% of customers were black and the boycott lasted 381 days and needed in the desegregation of Montgomery buses.

Q

Establishment of black organisations counter

A

However, in Montgomery, everything else was still segregated and though buses were segregated there was still so much to be done. Showing the NAACP was less important as people did not experience change and showing people they could not trust organisations alone to make a different so did not demand CR.

Another group was the SCOC which king was apart of. In 1963 king announced w March in Birmingham Alabama. The SCLC was an effective organisation which encourages large numbers to rally and campaign. For example king had children to march to embarrass policemen and officers showing kids were Mature enough to accept each other. Despite the children police set out dogs on 800 children and injured many black Americans.

Q

Effective black organisations evaluation

A

Fairly important
This bc naacp has members like Medger Evans who helped James Meredith who attempted to be the first black student at university of Mississippi and had to have the support of 16000 federal troops to attend which encouraged demand of civil rights w support of groups
However less important than leaders as people like Malcolm x led groups on a way that was strong and gained mass media attention for cause providing someone to rally behind
