Delegation
transferring to a competent individual the authority to perform a selected nursing task in a selected situation. RN is accountable for delegation.
Assignments
the distribution of work that each staff member is responsible for during a given work period. The individual (RN) is already authorized to do assignment ex, when RN directs another RN to assess a patient–it is within RN scope of practice.
Supervision
the provision of guidance or direction and follow up by the RN for accomplishment of a delegated nursing task by assistive personnel. By law, this means that anytime you delegate a task you will be held accountable for the direction and follow up to evaluate the outcome.
