Adult
A flight passenger who has reached his/her twelfth birthday by the day of departure (not including youth discounts).
Accompanied child
A child traveling together with an adult fare-paying passenger
Airport
A building used to process air passengers.
Airport user fee
A charge imposed on a passenger by an airport for the use of its facilities.
Baggage allowance
The limitations on baggage that an airline permits the carriage of by its passengers, included in the price of a ticket and without additional cost, and that is determined according to either the Piece Concept or the Weight Concept.
Baggage claim area
The part of the airport terminal used by a passenger for retrieval of checked baggage (generally a secured area, restricted to passengers and accessed before proceeding through customs on transborder/international flights).
Baggage tag
A receipt or claim ticket issued by a carrier for checked baggage
Boarding pass
A form given to a passenger that will indicate the number and row of the assigned seat.
BSP
Bank settlement plan
Bulkhead seats
Seats located at emergency exits or directly behind a cabin wall (for bassinets and extra leg room).
Cabotage
An international law that forbids a carrier of one country from transporting passengers between two airports within another country.
Cancellation fee/penalty
A fee charged to a passenger by an airline to cancel a reservation.
Child (CH)
A flight passenger between the ages of 2 and 12 inclusive.
Circle trip
A trip involving more than one destination and returning to the originating city by a different route.
Client
The customer who purchases a travel product (may or may not be the passenger).
Commission
A payment made by a wholesale travel supplier to a travel agent for selling of its products.
Connection
A flight that requires the passenger to change aircraft as part of the itinerary.
Confirmed reservation
A certification to a passenger by a carrier that the passenger holds a seat on an aircraft.
Conjunction tickets
A series of airline tickets for a journey of more than four legs.
Consolidator
A company that has a certain inventory of airline tickets to sell at special prices.
Destination
A place to which a passenger is traveling and where the journey ends.
Direct flight
A flight making a stop or stops between two cities that does not require a passenger to change flights.
Discounted fare
A fare sold at a price less than a normal fare (also SPECIAL FARE, EXCURSION FARE).
Domestic travel
Travel wholly within a country.
Elapsed flying time
Actual time spent in the air after time zones and stops have been deducted.
Endorsement
Special information relating to the use of a ticket, or particular coupons of a ticket, which is added to the appropriate box of an airline ticket for endorsements.
Fare
The price paid for a travel product, including air transportation.
Fare rules
The restrictions and conditions imposed on a fare type by an airline.
Flight coupon
A removable part of an airline ticket, setting out the flight reservations made for the passenger and used to identify the passenger at customs and at the departure gate.
Flight number
A minimum 3-digit number assigned by an airline to each flight itinerary.
Gateway
City serving as a major entry or departure point into or out of a foreign country.
Inbound
Travel from POT to destination.
Infant
A flight passenger who has not reached his/her 2nd birthday by the day of departure.
Interline connection
A journey involving a change of airline companies
International travel
Travel between Canada and all points that are neither domestic nor transborder.

Joint fare
A fare charged for a journey with an Interline connection
Leg
A portion of a ticketed journey
Local fare
The fare that applies to travel on a nonstop flight with one carrier.
Locator number
A computer reservation number given at the time of booking to enable quick access to file.
Minimum connection time
Minimum time legally needed to make a connection between two flights in a city.
MCO
Miscellaneous charge order
No-show
One who fails to cancel a ticket or use a reservation
Online connection.
A journey involving a change of aircraft of the same company.
Open jaw
Flying into one city and returning from a different city.
Open ticket
An airline ticket with unspecified travel dates

The places at which a journey commences

Refers to variations in fare levels according to time of year and passenger volume as determined by fare rules
Segment
A portion of a ticketed journey
Skycot
A bassinet provided on an aircraft for infants
Standard administration forms
Non-accountable documents without cash value used to process transactions
Standard traffic documents
Accountable documents with cash value, including airline tickets
Standby
A passenger who waits at the airport for a seat with no seat
Status
Refers to whether a reservation has been confirmed as to available space or is of some lesser standing
Stopover
A deliberate interruption of a journey
Surface
Means a ground segment in itinerary also known as ARNK
Tax
A government imposed charge or fee.
Terminal
A part of an airport used for embarking or disembarking
Transborder travel
Travel between Canada and the USA
UM
Unaccompanied minor
Unaccompanied minor
Child travelling by air without an adult.
VIP
Very important passenger/person
Wait list
Flight is sold out. Name is held by the airline pending a cancellation.
Youth
A passenger who has reached his/her 12th birthday but is not 21 years old.
Apron
The place on the Tarmac where the plane sits at the gate.
Baggage room
The area where the baggage is singled out into its respective destinations.
Belts or carousel
Circular conveyor on which the baggage is rotated for passenger to claim or the belt that takes the checked baggage into the baggage room.
Bridge
Direct connection from the terminal to the aircraft to load passengers.
Gate
Parking position where the plane gets service and passengers load and unload.
Runway
Where the plane takes off and lands.
Terminal
Building where all the passenger activity takes place.
