Activities of daily living. Used to describe everyday things that a resident does routinely: Hygiene Grooming Dressing Eating Toileting Transferring
Acute illness
Sudden onset illness with recovery expected
Basic nursing skills
Essential skills required of NAs to deliver competent care in healthcare settings
Chronic illness
Illness with a slow start, no known cure, but with treatment can be controlled and complications prevented
Client
Person being cared for at home
Cognition
The way in which sensory inputs are put into and recovered from memory to answer questions, perform tasks, and respond to requests
Contagious disease
Easily spread illness
Delegation
Assigning part of one’s responsibility to another qualified person in a specific situation. Transferring responsibility for the performance of an activity or task while retaining accountability for the outcome.
Grooming
Tasks done to maintain person’s appearance (e.g. fingernail care)
Hygiene
Tasks done to maintain health and cleanliness (e.g. bathing)
Intermediate Care Facility (ICF)
RN 8 hours/day
Interpersonal skills
In healthcare setting, generally refers to healthcare provider’s ability to get along with others while getting the job done
Liability
A person can be held responsible for harming someone. It is important for NAs to follow instructions and perform only tasks within their scope of practice according to policy and procedures
Long-Term Care (LTC)
Facility providing 24 hour care

Regulatory body that provides list of tasks that fall within the range of function for NAs in NC

Defines range of function for NAs in NC
North Carolina Health Care Personnel Registry Section
Section of the State of NC that provides services for unlicensed healthcare workers, their employers, and their instructors, and maintains NA I registry
North Carolina Nurse Aide I Registry
Registry of all people who meet the state and federal training and testing requirements to perform NA I tasks in NC
Nurse Aide I in the State of North Carolina
Valued, unlicensed member of the healthcare team, responsible for providing delegated nursing tasks within a defined range of function for residents (patients, clients) in a variety of settings, and who is listed on the NC NA I Registry
