Epidemiology
Study of incidence, distribution, patterns and determinants of health and disease conditions in a defined population
What is a fistula?
A fistula is an abnormal communication lined with granulation tissue between two epithelial or endothelial surfaces.
What is a sinus?
A sinus is a blind ending tract lined by granulation tissue.
What is an abscess?
An abscess is a localised collection of pus lined with granulation tissue.
What is a polyp?
A polyp is an abnormal growth of tissue projecting from a mucus membrane or epithelial surface.
What is pus?
Pus Is a collection of neutrophils together with dead or dying micro organisms
What is a hernia?
A hernia as an abnormal protrusion of an anatomical structure through a defect in the wall that usually contains it.
What is a cyst?
A cyst is an abnormal membranous sack containing gaseous, liquid or semisolid substance
What is a pseudocyst?
A pseudocyst is a fluid filled cavity resembling a cyst but lacking a wall or lining. It usually contains necrotic debris rather than fluid.
What is a stoma?
A stoma is a surgical opening into a hollow viscous. It can be classified by location e.g. ileostomy colostomy gastrostomy tracheostomy, Temporary or permanent, number of openings e.g. loop versus end.
What is an aneurysm?
An aneurysm is an abnormal dilatation of a blood vessel more than 50% of its normal diameter
What is a diverticulum?
A diverticulum is an abnormal outpouching of a hollow viscous into surrounding tissue.
What is necrosis?
Necrosis is abnormal tissue death.
