Ecosystem
A community of interdependent species and their environment
Biosphere
The place on Earth’s surface where life dwells
Nature
The living things, the ecosystems and the processes that form them, and the places in which we find all these
Mother Nature
A term that refers to the Earth’s biosphere
Urban/built environments
Areas that have been built or modified by humans, such as cities and towns
Wilderness
An environment that is big, remote and untouched or relatively untouched by humans
Protected areas
Area where the environment and the animals in it are protected by people from people
Motivations
Reason why we do something
Risk
The potential to lose something of value
Absolute Risk
The uppermost limit of risk in a particular situation or activity, assuming safety has NOT been considered
e.g rock climbing without safety equipment
Perceived risk
The subjective assessment that a person makes about risk they are about to face in some situation
e.g getting attacked by a shark when swimming
Actual/real risk
The risk that actually exists for a particular situation or activity, given safety HAS been considered
e.g driving a car with a seatbelt on
Minimal impact
Having little to none affect on the outdoor environment, when doing something like hiking
Experiential learning
It is learning something by doing it
Sustainability
The on going capacity of of earth to maintain all life
