Alpine
Is above 1300 meters, high mountain area, has a regular experience of snow.
Animals found there: mountain pigmy possum and wombats
Example: mount Bogong
Key facts: highest parts of the Alpine environment are treeless
There are over 200 bird species in these environments
Grassland
Flat landscape dominated by grasses and small scrubs, trees are either not found at all or are found in small numbers.
Animals: striped legless lizard
Example: parts of Gippsland
Key facts: -more than 10% of Victoria is grassland
- covering 2.3 million hectares
Coast and Marine environments
Subject to constant change, wind, large waves and constant salt spray create a wide variety of landforms and put dune systems, cliffs and shorelines under ongoing pressure.
Animals: penguins and oystercatchers
Example: Port Campbell
Key facts: the marine environment include an enormous rage of habitats
