Aphasia
impairs a person’s ability to process language, but does not affect intelligence. Aphasia impairs the ability to speak and understand others, and most people with aphasia experience difficulty reading and writing.
Chvostek sign
Contraction of facial muscles in response to light tap of facial nerve in front of ear
Indication: calcium deficiency
Lobes
Parietal lobe is the primary center for sensation. Temporal lobe is the auditory reception area. Frontal lobe concerns personality, behavior, emotions, and intellectual function. Occipital lobe is the primary visual receptor center.
Mutism
Selective mutism is most common in children under age 5. The cause, or causes, are unknown. Most experts believe that children with the condition inherit a tendency to be anxious and inhibited.
Pregnancy
Nulligravida: never pregnant
Primigravida: 1st pregnancy
Multigravida: at least 2nd pregnancy
Nullipara: not a birth at more than 20 wks gestation
Primipara: one birth after 20 wk of gestation
Multipara: 2 or more at stage of fetal viability
Ovulation
Basal temp rises .5-1 degree when ovulation occurs
Trousseau sign
Carpal spasm induced by inflating BP cuff
