Definitions Flashcards
Symptoms overlap
Where two or more conditions share simmiler symptoms
Eg both SZ and depression involve negative symptoms such as avolition
Co- morbidity
2 illnesses/ conditions occur at same time
Sz is commonly diagnosed with other conditions such as depression/ ocd
As they share common symptoms I.e lowered motivation / mood
Gender bias
Since 1980 men diagnosed with sz more often than women
Could be because men genetically more vunreble to developing sz than women
However could be because females with sz typically function better than men being more likely to work and have good family relationships
Culture bias
English people with African origins much more likely to be diagnosed with sz in uk
Because some behaviours classed as positive symptoms of sz are normal in African cultures
