Terms that are named after people or places. Ex. Alzheimers disease, Achilles tendon etc.
Cytoplasm
Holds the organelles of the cell
Lysosome
Organelles that serve a digestive function for the cell
Ribosome
Site of protein formation: contains ribunucleic acid (RNA)
Mitochondrion
Converts nutrients into energy in the presence of oxygen.
Nucleus
Control centre of the cell; contains deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), which carries genetic information
Tissue
Group of similar cells from the same origin that together carry out a specific function.
Four categories: epithelial, connective, muscular, nervous.
Cell
Basic unit of life; building block; smallest unit of the body
Organs
Groups of different tissues; also referred to as viscera
System
Groups of different organs working together
