Definition of Terms Flashcards
may apply to an image or formulation of something imagined
& visualized of something vaguely assumed, guessed at or
sensed.
Ideas
suggest an understanding acquired through learning or
investigation of what is known about a discipline’s subject matter
Knowledge
an aspect of reality that can be consciously
sensed or experience. an idea about a situation, a process, a group of events or a group of situations
Phenomena
a word or cluster of word describing an object, idea or event. the mental image of the phenomena rather than the actual physical
thing. the subject matter of theory; symbolic representations of things/ events of which phenomena are composed
Concept
ndependent of time or place; indirectly
observable
Abstract concept
specific to time & place & are observable
Concrete concept
Explains the relationships of different
concepts. An idea or plan suggested for
acceptance
Proposition
s composed of various descriptions which convey a
general meaning & reduces the vagueness in
understanding a concept
Definition
Is a statement that specifies the relationship or
connection of factual concepts or phenomena.
Assumption
epresentation of interaction among & between
concepts showing patterns
Model
(model) worded statements, a form closely related to
knowledge development
Verbal model
(Model) may be diagram,
drawings, graphs, or pictures that facilitate understanding
Schematic model
a testable relationship statement
Hypothesis
the application of systematic, scientific methods to study
phenomena & generate knowledge
Research
an organized and systematic articulation of a set
statements related to questions in the discipline of nursing
Nursing Theory
Greek word- “Theria”
vision
a formal statements that are constructed in order to
organize ideas & explain event. It is a short hand way of
solving research findings. systematic way of looking at the world in order to describe, explain, predict and control it. a group of related concepts that propose actions that guide practice.
Theory
is an organized system of accepted
knowledge that is composed of concepts,
propositions, definitions and assumptions
intended to explain a set of fact, event or
phenomena.
THEORY
(Use of Theory) it identifies the
focus, the goals & the means of practice
Theory guides & improves nursing practice
(Type f theory) Also known as Factor-Isolating Theories. They identify & describe major concepts of phenomena.
However they do not explain the relationship of the concepts.
Descriptive Theory
(Type f theory) Also known as Factor-Isolating Theories. They identify & describe major concepts of phenomena.
However they do not explain the relationship of the concepts.
Descriptive Theory
(Type of theory) Also known as Factor Relating Theories. Type of theory that present relationship among concepts &
propositions.
Explanatory Theories
Also known as Situation-Relating Theories. These type of theories are achieved when the relationship of
concepts under a certain
condition are able to describe future outcomes consistently. generated and tested using experimental
research.
Predictive Theories
Also called Situation-Producing Theories This kind of theory is commonly used in testing the
nursing interventions
Prescriptive Theories
validates & explains the different nursing management in the
emergency room in relieving anxiety among clients.
