Definition of Terms Flashcards
Contracting cells
contraction of the chambers and ejection of blood.
Conducting cells
responsible for initiating the
electrical stimulus
Automaticity
initiate an electrical impulse spontaneously
Excitability
the ability of cardiac cells to reach a threshold and respond to an electrical stimulus
Conductivity
the ability of the heart to propagate an impulse from cell to cell
Contractility
the ability of muscle cells to shorten (contract) in response to an electrical
stimulus.
Depolarization
contraction of cells
Repolarization
relaxation of cells
Refractory period
a period of time after a cell has depolarized during which it cannot
depolarize again.
Bradycardia
Slow heart rate
Tachycardia
Fast heart rate
