Anatomy of the Heart Flashcards
Right Atrium
receives unoxygenated blood and pumps it into the right
ventricle.
Right Ventricle
pumps blood into the pulmonary artery and to the
lungs.
Left Atrium
receives oxygenated blood from the lungs and pumps it into the left ventricle.
Left Ventricle
pumps blood into the aorta and to the rest
of the body.
Tricuspid Valve
located between the right atrium and right ventricle and functions to prevent
backflow of blood from RV to RA during ventricular systole.
Mitral Valve
located between the left atrium and left ventricle and functions to prevent
backflow of blood from LV to LA during ventricular systole.
Pulmonic Valve
located between the RV and the pulmonary artery and functions to prevent
backflow from PA into RV during ventricular diastole.
Aortic Valve
located between the LV and the aorta and functions to prevent backflow of blood
from aorta into LV during ventricular diastol
