What is the definite article and what must it always do?
The definite article is used to refer to something specific i.e el professor de español (the Spanish teacher)
It must always agree in number and gender with its noun
When would el be used with feminine singular nouns?
When the feminine singular noun start with a stressed -a or -ha i.e. el hacha, el águila, el alma, el agua
*some exceptions
letters of the alphabet
women’s names: la Ana
La Haya (the Hague)
La árabe (Arab women)
What is the indefinite article used for? What must it agree with?
To refer to something that is not specific i.e. un profesor de español
Must agree in gender and number with its noun

unos unas
When is an article not needed in Spanish but is in English?
when the nouns refer to:
profession
social status
rank
religion
political persuasion
