Defining Constructs Flashcards
What is the basis of Podsakoff’s argument?
If the construct is imprecisely defined, how can know if the measure if a good representation of the construct?
What two things should be do to properly define a construct?
state how similar it is to other constructs, and how it is different from other constructs
Why is it important to clearly distinguish related constructs?
It tells us how to understand the relationship between the measures of those constructs.
What statistical tool do we use to understand the relationship between construct measures?
we run a correlation and interpret the “r” which is the correlation coefficient — this tells us the how closely related variables are (strength/direction).
The correlation coefficient ranges from -1 to 1. The closer it is to -1 or 1, the more closely the variables are related. If it’s 0, it means there is no relationship.
