What are risk factors for DVT?
A
triad:
1) endothelial injury
2) venous stasis
3) altered coagulation

What are signs and symptoms of DVT?
A
- pain
- edema/swelling
- warm or cool to the touch
- hard to diagnose

What tests would be useful in diagnosing a DVT?
A
- ultrasound
- D-dimer
- CT scan
- PT/INR, PTT
- platelets

How would you prevent a DVT?
A
- compression stockings
- sequential compression devices
- prophylactic anticoagulants
- increased mobility

How is a DVT managed?
A
- anticoagulants (prevent clot from increasing in size)
- thrombolytic (give in first 3 days to dissolve the clot)
- surgery to remove the clot?
- compression stockings
- heat and analgesics
- early mobilization
