External Decon Procedure
goal to reduces contamination
reduce survey count by at least half
Methods
Primarily depends upon the type and location of contamination
Self-decon is faster and more productive
Works best for dry dust type contamination
tape
Soap and water technique
Wash 1-3 mins (may use cloth or scrub brush)
1-3 mins waterless hand cleaner
1-3 mins using mild abrasive soap
Do not injure skin
Recognized signs of excessive decontamination efforts will be more evident 24 hours later
When to use sloughing technique
If contamination cannot be removed by washing
6-9 hours later remove the wrapping
wash area again if significant amounts remain
