Decontamination - A4 Flashcards
What is clearance decontamination?
Eradication of contamination to sufficient extent that area and equipment can be returned to civilian use
What are the four principles of decontamination?
Need, Speed, Priority, Limit the Spread
What are the two components traditionally associated with Thorough Decontamination?
Detailed Equipment Decon (DED) and Detailed Troop Decon (DTD)
What is the purpose of MOPP Gear Exchange?
Provide temporary relief for soldiers from heat stress of MOPP while also switching out potentially contaminated ensembles
What are the four levels of decontamination?
Immediate, Operational, Thorough, Clearance
What is weathering?
Allowing time and environmental effects to destroy or degrade contamination
What are the five stations, in order, of Detailed Equipment Decontamination?
Gross Rinse, Decontaminant Application, Contact Time/Interior Decon, Rinse, Monitor
What is neutralization?
Chemical destruction of a contaminant, rendering it less toxic or non-toxic
What is physical removal?
Displacement of a contaminant from one surface to another without destroying the contaminant itself
What are the eight stations, in order, of Detailed Troop Decontamination?
Equipment Wash, Boot and Hood Decon, Overgarment Removal, Boot and Glove Removal, Monitoring, Mask Removal, Mask Cleaning, Resupply
When should soldiers be recycled during DTD?
They should never be recycled; residual contamination should be treated with spot decontamination (RSDL, M295)
What is the general goal of Thorough Decontamination?
To reduce contamination levels enough that soldiers can operate without continued wear of IPE
