- 2nd highest level of decontamination
- kills MOST microorganisms on hard, nonporous surfaces.
- does NOT kill spores

a disinfectant that is safe to use on the skin,
ex. hydrogen peroxide, and alcohol.

- kills ALL microorganisms including bacteria, bacterial spore, viruses, and fungi.
ex. autoclave is high pressure steam
