D.O.I was an alert to the King for Independence
Thomas Paine argued that citizens, not monarchs, should make laws. At the time, much of the world was ruled by monarchs so people were probably surprised by his ideas. Paine convinced many people not to accept tyranny or economic dependence. The document announced that the colonies had the right to break free from the British Crown. It convinced many colonial leaders that the colonies should be free. His ideas influenced Thomas Jefferson, the main author of the Declaration of Independence

Personal sacrifices signers of the declaration of independence made were- lost personal possessions, fought in the war and were killed, had homes destroyed, families were hunted by the British, lost sons who fought and died.
