Deck #2 Flashcards
Photosynthesis occurs in two stages. Name each stage and where they take place.
Dependent reactions - thylakoid.
Calvin cycle (independent reactions) - stroke or chloroplast.
In which reaction are carbon dioxide and water used.
Carbon dioxide is used in the light independent reaction.
Water is used used in the light dependent cycle.
What is the purpose of light dependent reaction?
Is to use water and light to produce ATP and NADPH.
What happens to the high energy electrons that are produced in photosystem 1.
Converts ADP to ATP.
Converts NADP to NADPH.
What is the name of the enzyme int the thylakoid that is used to produce ATP?
ATP synthase
Where does the Calvin cycle take place?
Stroma of chloroplast!
Explain the three factors that effect photosynthesis?
Temperature- If to cold it could frees the enzymes. Slowing down the rate of photosynthesis.
Light intensity- as the light intensity keeps getting stronger the rate of photosynthesis hits its maximum speed.
Availability of water - A shortage of water can slow or even stop photosynthesis.
What powers the rotation of the ATP synthase molecule?
Hydrogen ions go from high concentrations to low concentration.
What splits off mid cycle in the Calvin cycle.
2 3 carbon molecules
What is the overall purpose of the Calvin Cycle?
Make organic products plants need
Glucose or sugars.
