Answer Questions 1 - 10 Flashcards
What are autotrophs?
They make there own food by using sunlight, carbon dioxide, and water to help them get sugar which then can be used as energy.
Plants and algae.
What is an heterotroph?
They are an organism cannot manufacture its own food by carbon fixation and for that derives its intake of nutrients from other sources of organic carbon.
Plant or animal matter.
Define photosynthesis?
The process where green plants and some other organisms use sunlight to synthesize food from carbon dioxide and water. In plants it normally involves the green pigment chlorophyll and generates oxygen as a byproduct.
What does ATP and ADP stand for
ATP - Adenosine Tri Phosphate.
ADP - adenosine Di Phosphate.
What is the difference between ATP and ADP?
ATP has 3 phosphate groups where as ADP only has 2.
What is the function of ATP.
Used as the main energy source
5 activities that require ATP.
Cell division Active transport Synthesis of proteins from amino acids Muscle cell contraction Transmission of verve impulses
What are the three parts to ATP
Adenine
Ribosomes
Three phosphate groups
What is the equation for photosynthesis
6 CO2 + 6 h2o -> c6h12o6 + 6 o2
What are the reactants of photosynthesis
Carbon dioxide and water are used with light energy to produce glucose sugar and oxygen gas.
