Poor economy that has a high unemployment rate and deters business, poor provision of services e.g. healthcare and education, degraded environment (high levels of pollution), residents have a poor quality of life, healthcare, child poverty, educational attainment (might be ranked low on the IMD), high levels of out migration

The Bay Area economy is one of the most productive and prosperous in the country.

- Recession in the 1980’s
What are the negative consequences of closures in industries?
With rising numbers of unemployed, Detroit saw a fall in taxes and a rise in
crime. As city authorities had less money to invest in public services, the
city fell into dereliction.
