Decision making and reaction time Flashcards
Decision making and reaction time
A performer’s ability to react demonstrates how effectively they can make decisions and carry out sport-specific actions.
Number of stimulus-response alternatives
The more choices that are available for a performer , the more reaction time increases, as they choose which choice to take.
Stimulus-response compatibility
If the stimulus is expected by the performer, reaction time would be much faster than if the performer was not expecting it.
Practise and anticipation
Practice can decrease reaction time as a performer becomes more skilled at anticipating stimuli.
Psychological Refractory period ( PRP)
The time taken for the second stimuli is slowed as the reaction to the first stimuli is still being completed.
