Reserve Officer running plates of young women under someone else’s name= Violation of CJIS user agreement
Reserve Officer not authorized to access CJIS
Said they were speeding by detail, but did not take any LE action afterwards.
- Initiate investigation into the allegation
- Gather information and secure reports from individuals involved
- Immediately notify Chief of Violations
- Check reserve Officer’s CJIS Status and Training records
- Speak with Chief about Relieving or changing work status until investigation is completed.
20 Veteran Officer, good performing officer, calling out sick on weekends. No discipline the last 5 years.
You have been directed to find out what the problem is and resolve it.
Personal problem, health issues, job disappointment?
Substance abuse problem?
Results in forced overtime, effects morale
- Call officer in to dicuss
- Give credit for prior service
- Discuss change and pattern of sick usage
- Offer EPA services if necessary
- Set clear expectations for future behavior in regard to future sick time use
- Make clear that future undocumented absences will trigger consequences in accordance with department policy
Lt making sexual advances towards female officer. Become more aggressive over the past 2 weeks. Massaging her neck, etc.
She asks you to handle this yourself and stop the behavior at your level.
- Zero Tolerance for Sexual Harassment
- Policy Requires mandated reporting
- Advise Officer of her rights, and that you are mandated reporter, and must immediately report the behavior to Captain McDonough, per department policy
- Protection of officer from further behavior is a top priority. Retaliation against person making the allegation will not be tolerated, and may result in termination.
- Recommend paid leave pending investigation
- No contact/ not to discuss the matter given out to parties
Excessive force allegation. You determine there was no excessive forced based on video.
However, in his report the officer stated that the prisoner threw a punch at him which is not depicted in the video and did not happen.
Officer is questioned by you and invokes his right against self-incrimintation.
What are the issues? What action do you recommend?
Issue: Accuracy of the report (untruthfulness)
- initiate a full investigation
- Notify Chief, allow him to determine whether DA should be notified
- Interview the other officer invovled
- Officer has right to invoked his right against self incrimination because FALSIFYING A POLICE REPORT IS A CRIME.
- Notify POST (untruthfulness)
- Place Officer on paid leave pending the results of the investigation
