strategic, tactical, operational
what is strategic decision making and what is their aim and give example?
- this is a long term decision which is made by senior managers
- their aim is to meet the overall purpose and direction of the organisation eg grow the business
what is tactical decision making, what is their aim and give an example?
- this is a medium term decision which is made by middle managers
- aim is to achieve strategic decisions eg launch new products to grow organically.
what is operational decision making, what is their aim and give an example?
- this is short term/day to day decisions which is made by supervisors/all staff.
- aim is too react to situations as they arise eg dealing with customer complaints
4 factors affecting decision making:
finance, time, staff abilities, staff willingness
impact of finance affecting decision making:
there may not be enough finance available to the business to make decisions.
impact of time affecting decision making:
if there is not much time, the decision could be rushed so it will not be a good decision
impact of staff abilities:
staff may not have the skills to carry out the decision
impact of staff willingness on decision making:
staff may have the skills to carry out the decision BUT are not motivated to do so
