- Confirms Old Testament Messiah prophecies- significant throughout Mark
- One of the robbers defends him - encouraged early Christians that they weren’t following a criminal
- Sky going dark and water flowing out of pierced side show divinity - important to persecuted Early Christians
- Roman soldier recognised Jesus as Son of God - hope that Romans would one day understand their faith
