Deaf Ed Vocabulary 2 Flashcards
Speech Reading
technique of understanding speech by visually interpreting the movements of the lips, face and tongue with information provided by the context, language, and any residual hearing.
Cued Speech
phonemic-based system which makes traditionally spoken languages accessible by using a small number of handshapes (representing consonants) in different locations near the mouth (representing vowels), as a supplement to lip-reading.
Auditory-Oral English
based on the concept that society communicates largely through spoken language. The goal of the auditory-oral approach is for the child to learn spoken language and to be able to communicate verbally.
Total Communication
a philosophy of educating children with hearing loss that incorporates all means of communication; formal signs, natural gestures, fingerspelling, body language, listening, lip-reading and speech.
Cerebral Palsy

IEP

Individualized Family Service Plans
similar to developing an IEP in that child’s needs and services are determined on an individual basis. IFSP includes family support services, nutrition services, and case management.
Transition Plans
identified as “points of change” in services and personnel who coordinate and provide services. A carefully planned, outcome-oriented process, initiated by the primary service provider, who establishes and implements a written, multi-agency service plan for each child moving to a new program.
