anonymity

A

being unrecognizable diminishes personal consequence as fear of punishment .

increase anonymity by = be apart of a large group, darkness/ uniform

anonymity = reduces inner restraints = increases behaviours that are usually inhibited

people usually stop themselves from acting aggressively because social norms are against their behaviour and bc they’re easily identifiable

e- mann, analysed 21 times of suicide leaps, found in 10 in 21 cases where a crowd had gathered, baiting had occurred

e- baiting usually happened at night, where crowd was large, some distance from the jumper

e- Watson , looked at extent which warriors in 23 societies changed their appearance before going to war and the extent which they killed/ tortured victims

e- found that warriors who changed their appearance the most= most destructive towards victims compared to those who didnt change appearance
