Day Care Flashcards
NICHD study
Studied 1000 children- the longer they spent in daycare the more signs of being assertive, disobedient and aggressive.
EPPE
European project studied 3000 4-7 yearolds. They suggested 20hours or less in day care was a risk to social development but over could be very harmful.
Ravine Study
Showed aggression levels were less frequent after the first 10weeks in day care. It showed the ones in full time day care had lower aggression levels than the ones in part time day care.
Draw backs to the ravine study
less aggression levels could have been because they made friendships and were therefore more relaxed. They have adjusted to the environment after 10 weeks
Other evaluation point
All children respond to situations differently
The findings are not causal
Fields study
Corrolation between the amount of time spent in day care and the amount of friends children had when they started school.
