Concrete
clear and certain, or real and existing in a form that can be seen or felt:
- They think she killed her husband, but they have no concrete evidence.
- We have a general idea of what we want, but nothing concrete at the moment.
Turquoise
Mace
to use Mace (= a chemical in a special container that is sprayed into someone’s face) on someone:
- The police maced Williams twice before he was subdued.
- He was allegedly maced and hit with a golf club by two men
To tuck
to push a loose end of a piece of clothing or material into a particular place or position, especially to make it tidy or comfortable:
- Should I tuck my shirt into my trousers?
- He tucked the bottom of the sheet under the mattress.
To appose
to place something next to or close to something else:
- The ingredients are apposed rather than completely mixed.
Intrepid
extremely brave and showing no fear of dangerous situations:
- a team of intrepid explorers
Prick up
If you prick up your ears, or if your ears prick up, you suddenly begin to listen very carefully because you have heard something interesting:
- I overheard them mentioning my name and pricked up my ears.
Upstart
a person, especially a young one, who has suddenly got power or an important position and takes advantage of this in an unpleasant way
Eternity
time that never ends or that has no limits:
- They haven’t been given these rights for (all) eternity - they should justify having them just like most other people have to.
- Religions gain some of their worldly power by claiming they have the key to eternity (= a state of existence outside normal life).
