Q

How can sound be sampled and stored in digital form?

A

Sound exists as waves however, computers do not understand waves therefore you would need to convert these waves into binary. Digital sound is broken into thousands of samples per second - each of these samples is then stored as binary data. The higher the bit depth the better the sound quality. Bit rates are usually measured in kilobits per second (kbps).
