The DCU functions as the main interface between the VOBC, cab equipment and wayside equipment. It hosts the MRU that transmits/receives radio communications between the EU and wayside equipment.

The isolation boards provide opto-coupled isolation for the serial interface communication between the EU and the WTP, TIU and TCMS components.

The DCU converters are DC/DC converters which filter the 24V dc input and provide 5V dc/12V dc outputs for the DCU components.

The on-board WTP provides the communication path between the VOBC and VCC wayside equipment.

The DCU cassette consists of a mechanical assembly that hosts the MRU and transmits/receives information to/from the wayside equipment.

The MRU is formed by radio modules in the wayside radio unit (WRU) and the MRU on-board. There are two MRUs on the train for added redundancy.
