Data and Graphs Flashcards
Data and Graphs
Usage and Why
Used to measure the success, failure or stagnation of a target.
- Data for targets are gathered each session.
- A visual examination of the client’s progress.
Graphs are examined to determine:
● Level: the position of data on the Y axis
● Trend: the direction in which that data is moving
● Variability: the relationship between the data points on the graph
Level
The position of data on the Y axis
- Identify the lowest data point and the highest data point to determine the level of a graph.
Trend
The direction in which that data is moving
- Show and increase, decrease or no change.
Variability
Comparing data points to other data points on the graph.
- Low variability indicates that a behavior is relatively stable.
- High variability indicates that it is changing regularly.
- Variability results in the inability to determine if an intervention is working because the data points do not show consistency in trend or level.
X-Axis (abscissa)
Horizontal axis of a graph.
- the dates/time across which the data were collected.
Y-Axis (ordinate)
Vertical axis of a graph.
- The numerical data that has been recorded.
Slope
Show rates of various behaviors.
- measured by dividing the chan.ge in vertical distance by the change in horizontal distance between two points
Phase Change Line
Indicates a change in the phase (condition) of a study.
- e.g. Between the baseline and treatment (intervention) phase(s).
- important in helping determine whether an independent variable had a significant effect on the dependent variable in a study.
Data Path
The connection of all of the successive data points within a particular phase
