Data About Us Flashcards
attribute
a characteristic or feature about a person or object.
distribution
the shape of the data set as a whole
frequency table
a frequency table shows the number of times a value shows up in a data chart.
data
values or obseravtions
line plot
a line plot is a graph that shows data values on a number line using x es or other marks.
cluster
when the data groups are close together
gaps
places where there are no data marks
mode
the most frequent value in a table.
range
the difference between the maximum and minimum value.
median
the number tht marks the midpoint of an ordered pair of data. at least half of those values lie at or above the median, and at least half lie below the median
summary sttistic
a single number that convEys basic, but important, information about a distribution. examples of summary statistics include the mean, median, mode, range, etc.
Ordered-value bar graph
You can use an ordered-value bar graph to find the mean of a data set.
Mean
Average. Add up all the numbers then divide but he number of numbers.
variability
an indication of how widely spread or closely clustered the data value are. range, minimum and maximum values, and clusters in the distribution give some indication of variability. the variability of a distribution can also be measured by its IQR or MAD.
quartiles
one of the three points that divide a dats set into four equal groups. the second quartile, Q2, is the median of the data set. the first quartile, Q1, is the median of the lower half of the data set. the third quartile, Q3, is the median of the upper half of the data set.
