Dashboards and Monitors Flashcards
What benefit do dashboards offer?
They allow you to keep a constant watch on your environment.
What are monitors?
Monitors are condensed information about your environment that appear in the form of charts and graphs. They comprise dashboards.
How are dashboards usually organized?
There is an overall theme to the dashboard(ex: Threat Events) and the monitors that appear on the dashboard relate to the theme
Hypothetically, if you deleted all dashboards, what would appear on the dashboard screen in ePO?
This text appears in the middle of the dashboards page “No dashboards are configured. Create a new dashboard or import an existing dashboard”
What are the different dashboard groups?
Public - User created Dashboards that are shared across users
Private - Dashboards only able to be viewed by the creator
Shared - Dashboards only able to be viewed by the creator and specific permission sets that are determined by the creator
McAfee - Default Dashboards provided by McAfee. Can’t be edited or deleted, can be viewed by all users. Can be duplicated and used as the starting point for a new dashboard
How can you move a dashboard from one ePO server to another?
By exporting it from the source server and exporting it to the destination server
What file type are dashboards saved as when they’re exported?
XML
How can you configure which dashboard a user sees upon initial log on?
In the ‘Dashboards’ server setting, you can configure the initial dashboard for specific permissions, and then configure an initial dashboard for all other permission sets that weren’t specified
What might it mean if a message displays in place of a monitor on a dashboard?
You may not have the necessary rights or product licenses to view a monitor, or the underlying query for the monitor may not be available any longer
What happens when a dashboard monitor is refreshed?
The underlying query behind the monitor runs, and the results are displayed on the dashboard
What is the default refresh interval for new monitors?
5 minutes
What should be considered when choosing a refresh interval for monitors?
You want it to be frequent enough to ensure accurate and timely information is displayed without consuming undue network resources
Where can you change the default rate at which new monitors are refreshed?
In the Dashboards server setting
Where is the information presented by monitors derived from?
Typically, the information will be pulled from queries, but there are other types of monitors, such as McAfee Links, or Quick Find
What is a consideration that should be made when setting the default dashboard refresh rate? (Hint: It relates to the user session timeout interval)
The refreshing of a dashboard monitor is considered to be activity by ePO, so if the dashboard refresh interval is less than the user session timeout interval, and you leave the ePO console on the dashboards page, you could walk away and then the console would never log you out
