Motif
A short phrase of movement that reflects the chosen idea / stimulus and has the potential to be developed. It must be original and interesting.

Ways in which a movement phrase can be varied
Counterpoint
When more than one dancer performs different actions at the same time
Manipulation of number
When a choreographer changes who is performing within the group, e.g. two dancers performing different material to the other 3 dancers, then changing it so all dancers perform in unison
Characterisation
Performing clear conveying a particular role
Transitions
Linking movements between actions or sections in a dance
Accuracy
Performing in a precise and exact way
Projection
Making movements large and focusing out to the audience
Physical skills
Aspects enabling effective performance. Skills that enable you to perform the movement effectively.
Skills such as posture, alignment, balance, coordination, control, flexibility, mobility, strength, stamina, extension and isolation.
Expressive skills
How you perform to the audience. Aspects that contribute to performance artistry and that engage the audience.
Skills such as projection, musicality, focus

A choreography with several sections, linked by a theme.

A starting point for a dance. Inspiration behind a dance.

Using the touch of an object as a stimulus
Ideational
Using an idea as a stimulus
Visual
Using a picture, painting or photo as a stimulus
Kinaesthetic
Using a movement idea as a stimulus
Auditory
Using the sound or music as a stimulus
