What was the choreographic approach?
The dancers are encouraged to contribute and a lot of the movement is from Laura Jones’ movement in her wheelchair.
What was the stimulus?
The stimulus was a snow covered landscape with an isolated figure collapsed on a wheelchair, being observed as if it were a snow globe. Paintings by Goran Djurovic and the dancers experiences also provided inspiration.
What was the choreographic intention?
It is showing how they are coming to terms with life’s limitations and how we have to live with regrets.
How many dancers are there?
4-2 male, 2 female
What is the aural setting?
Andy Higgs created a futuristic atmosphere and created a cold, ambient sound. ‘The Sunshine of your smile’ was used but it often sounded distorted.
What are the costumes?
The costumes are a wash of blue and green, referencing the paintings by Djurovic.
What is the lighting?
It was designed by Chahine Yavrovan and for most of the dance the lighting focuses on one or two spots. It has a blue wash in the middle before returning to one spot.
What is the staging and set like?
It is set in a Proscenium arch and the set is designed by Anna Jones. The backdrop looks like paint is dripping down it and paper snow is scattered on the ground. There is also a dismantled wheelchair and a headless suit on mannequin legs on a stool.
