D6 Triac Flashcards
what does Triac stand for
bi-directional triode thyristor
Define: breakover voltage for a Triac. VF or VR
if the voltage in either direction were increased to a sufficient magnitude the Triac would turn on without a gate signal
SCR is a uni-directional switch and the Triac is a
bi-directional switch
when a Triac is conducting or on the voltage drop across it is normally
1-2V
why does the term reverse breakdown voltage not apply to Triacs
because they are design to operate in both directions.
Triac resistor control limits the firing anlge to
0 to 90 degrees
Triac resistor-capacitor control give full
0 to 180 phase shifting
List the terminals of a Triac
MT1
MT2

Which terminal on a Triac is the reference terminal
MT1
Which terminal is normally connected to the case or metal mounting part
MT2
