Cytoskeleton Flashcards
What are the functions of cytoskeleton?
Scaffolding and support
Vital role in movement and division
What’s cytoskeleton?
Microscopic network of protein filaments and tubules located in cytoplasm of many living cells
What do microfilaments (made of actin protein) do?
Maintain shape of the cell and provide protection
What’re intermediate filaments?
They’re the largest component of cytoskeleton that form a network that provides tension in the cell and prevents fracturing
What’s the role of microtubules?
They form flagella and cilia that helps with cell movement and make pathways for vesicles that attach oppositely directed motor proteins called Kinesin and Dynein (on microtubule)
What do all three components of cytoskeleton help with?
Cell division. They all perform a vital role
