Cytokines Flashcards

1
Q

IL-2

A

Type 1 cytokine
Source: T cells
Receptor: CD25 (low aff/naive: bg; high aff/activ: abg)
Target: T cell prolif, Treg survival, NK prolif/activ
only affects T cells w/HIGH affinity IL-2R
blocked by TGFb
CD4 T cells activated ahead of CD8 T cells to inc IL-2 (CD4 makes more than CD8)

Q

IL-12

A

Type 1 cytokine
Source: macrophages
Receptor: CD212
Target: Th1 diff, induce Tc/NK cells to make IFNg (& IL-18)

Make IFNg

  1. M1 activ (microbial killing)
  2. B cells-> complement binding, opsonizing IgG-> phagocytosis

Q

IL-1

A

IL-1 Family cytokine
Source: macrophages/monocytes
Receptor: CD121/218
Target: inc temp/fever, acute phase proteins (liver)

Q

IL-8 (chemokine)

A

Source: macrophages/mast cells (stimulated by inflammation)
Receptor: GPCR
Target: neutrophil chemotaxis (STARTS INFLAMMATORY PROCESS)
Released by initial monocyte/macrophage interaction w/microbe, attracts neutrophils, then neutrophils make LTB4 to attract more neutrophils
