Il-1
Secreted by macrophages
Causes fever, acute inflammation, activates endothelial cells to express adhesion molecs, induce cytokine secretion to recruit leukocytes
IL-2
secreted by all T cells
stimulates growth of helper, cytotoxic and regulatory T cells
Target for immunosuppressive drugs
IL-8
Macrophages and endothelial cells release IL-8 to draw neutrophils to site of injury (chemo taxis)
- also induces neutrophil to phagocytize
- result:pus….protein rich fluid and dead neutrophils
IL-10
Secreted by Th2 cells to stop Th1 cells from maturing
-stop cell mediated response to focus on humoral/antibody response
Interferon -gamma
Secreted by Th1 cells to stop Th2 /humoral response AND to activate macrophages for cell-mediated response
IL-3
Secreted by T cells
Stimulates bone marrow (stem cells)
Function like GM-CSF
IL-4
Secreted by Th2 cells
Cause differentiation of Th2 cells and INHIBIT Th1 response (along with IL-10)
Promote B cell growth
Enhance Class Switching to IgG and IgE
IL-5
Secreted by Th2 cells
Promote differentiation of B cells
promote class switching to IgA
Stimulate growth of eosinophils
IL-6
Secreted by macrophages and Th2 cells
Causes fever
Stimlates acute phase proteins
IL-8
Secreted by macrophages
Chemotaxis for neutrophils
IL-10
Secreted by Th2 cells and Treg cells
Inhibits Th1 pathway (along with IL-4)
also anti-inflammatory (along with TNF-beta)–>inhibit secretion of pro-inflammatory cytokines: IL-2, IFN-gamma, TNF alpha and IL-12
IL-12
Secreted by macrophages and B cells
Cause T cells to differentiate to Th1
Activate NK cells
TNF alpha
Secreted by macrophages
Mediates septic shock
Activates endothelium
Leukocyte recruitment, vascular leak
Infliximab is monoclonal antibody against TNF alpha for autoimmune inflam disease like RA, Crohn’s, UC
Interferon-gamma
Secreted by Th1 cellsTNF
Inhibit Th2 (humoral response)
antiviral and antitumor
Activate NK cells to kill virus infected cells
Increase MHC expression and antigen presentation in all cells
TGF-Beta
inhibit Th2 (humoral response) inhibits inflammation along with IL-10
