A
an inherited disease characterised by the build up of thick, sticky mucus that can damage many of the body’s organs

symptoms or characteristics
A
wheezing breathlessness decreased ability to exercise repeated lung infections inflamed nasal passages persistent cough (thick spit + mucus) foul smelling, greasy stool poor weight gain and growth intestinal blockage (infancy) severe constipation

inheritance
A
- inherited from child’s parents (only have one mutated gene don’t show symptoms)
- autosomal recessive pattern (both copies of gene in each cell have mutations)
- need to inherit one copy from each parent to inherit disease
- if only one is copied they become carriers
