Pathology of cystic fibrosis
Initially it is an obstructive lung disease caused by overall obstruction of the airways of mucus; later it progresses for restrictive lung disease because of the fibrosis, lung destruction and thoracic wall changes
Define cystic fibrosis
AutoSomal recessive, multi system disease characterized by altered function of the exocrine gland primarily involved in the lungs, pancreas, and sweat glands
Goals of therapy for CF
To promote clearance of secretions, control infection in the lungs, and provide adequate nutrition
Nursing care for patient with CF
Revolves around the diagnosis of ineffective airway clearance, impaired gas exchange, ineffective breathing pattern’s, and imbalanced nutrition and ineffective coping
