Cycling Of Gases In An Ecosystem Flashcards
Photosynthesis
Photosynthesis is when plants take in carbon dioxide and water and release oxygen and glucose.
Cellular Respiration
Cellular respiration is when animals take in oxygen and glucose and release carbon and water.
What do plants require in photosynthesis?
Plants require light.
What do plants and animals require for cellular respiration?
Plants- require dark.
Animals- light and dark.
Where does photosynthesis occur?
Cells (leaves)- in chloroplasts- chloroplasts contains green chlorophyll which absorbs light.
Where does cellular respiration occur?
Cells- in the cytoplasm and mitochondria organelles.
Where does energy come from for photosynthesis and cellular respiration?
Photosynthesis- Light (sun)
Cellular Respiration- Food: in the form of glucose (C6H12O6) and Oxygen- breathing.
Where does the energy from photosynthesis go?
Plants turn the light energy into chemical energy or sugars/glucose.
Where does the energy from cellular respiration go?
It maintains body systems:
- growth
- health
- movement
What are the reactants of the two cycles?
Photosynthesis- carbon dioxide and water
Cellular Respiration- oxygen and glucose
What are the products of the two cycles?
Photosynthesis- oxygen and glucose
Cellular Respiration- carbon dioxide and water
The chemical equation for photosynthesis
CO2+H2O->O2+C6H12O6
-Carbon dioxide+ water->oxygen+glucose
The chemical equation for cellular respiration
O2+C6H12O6->CO2+H2O
-Oxygen+glucose->carbon dioxide+water
